Dry Rot
Dry rot is a particular species of wood-destroying fungus that affects damp timber. It has a distinct mushroom smell. Common causes include leaking pipes and condensation, or rising and lateral damp, defective downpipes, gutters and drains.
Dry rot can spread through masonry, concrete floors and plaster, and cause serious structural damage. When treating dry rot, it is vital to remove the source of moisture, replace affected timbers and prevent reinfection.
